Today was SO MUCH better!  However, after yesterday, I feel like the material that we were given is a little advanced!  I mean, do you remember learning about centimeters in Kindergarten?  But we continue on . . . Today we practiced writing the number 5 and 0 and then spelling them.  We worked with pennies and talked about when you count pennies you say you have so many cents and not so many pennies.  I worked on that with Hailey and then she taught Emma.  Later we read from a series of early readers books that we have and read a couple of those.  Then we had 15 minutes of personal reading time!  Loved that!!!  After lunch we all made bread together and talked about how important it is to follow a recipe.  We also talked about the units in baking, ie. cups, teaspoons, and tablespoons.  Hailey and Emma would then count the cups of flour as I added them being sure to follow each number with the word "Cup".  Then we did a addition with the flour.  We used 4 cups white flour and 4 cups wheat flour and figured out how many total cups we used.  This was a good follow up, because we did a brief lesson on addition and subtraction earlier on in the day.  Then we talked about sentence structure and worked on what is a complete sentence.  Example: runs fast.  This would be an incomplete sentence.  But Dan runs fast.  is a complete sentence.  We then came up with our own examples and the girls thought it was really funny all of the silly incomplete sentences they could come up with.  They then got sidetracked and just started making up stories.  We'll just call than imaginative play! :)

Hey-

So to give you some insight- I was talking to another friend that just started WAVA and I was telling her that we were still in the "review" portion of the school and that things would get more interesting... I was talking about history specifically. She said, "what do you mean REVIEW? Her sone never learned any of this stuff in the brick and mortar school". So, although they may have put her in 1st grade, even if she was in kindergarten, you will find that she is learning stuff WAY ahead of when we did- or other kids that are attending your local schools. It's pretty cool and I hope that you all enjoy the ride.
