Today was crazy! First we received some of the materials today, none of which we needed yet. Of course! Then, we had catch up to do because we didn't do anything monday. So today we worked on writing numbers 1-4 and then learning how to spell the numbers. We also learned about groups and sets. Later we did some science. We talked about what a scientist is and what they do and also the tools that they used. So we talked about rulers for measuring. We first talked about how a long time ago the used to measure things with there feet or hands and how that is not a good way to measure things because people have different sized feet. Then we used paper clips to measure. We started with small clips and then moved to big clips. We talked about how important it is that everyone use the same measurement. If some people measured with small clips and then others measured with big clips we wouldn't get the same measurement. The paper clips also helped her to establish the concept of units. So each item we measured was so many CLIPS long. Then we moved on to centimeters. And she learned to label everything in centimeters.
Later we read the poem
The Tongue-Cut Sparrow (
which was a little weird), but had a good message. We talked about what happened in the poem and then colored a picture about what happened in the story. Anyhow, it was a very busy, but productive day!
