Thursday 9/11/08

Today we started with science.  We learned about matter and mass.  We talked about how just because something looks bigger doesn't always mean it has more mass.  We discovered this by looking at a marble and then a large styrofoam ball.  We then used a balance to weigh and discovered even though the marble was much smaller it actually weighed more than the styrofoam ball.  We also learned about a new unit of measurement . . . the gram.  We used gram cubes to figure out how much things weighed.  It took Hailey awhile to not call the measurement cubes, but Emma lovingly reminded her that is was grams. :)  I then made out grocery lists for both the girls with pictures and then the word typed right beside.  They really liked this when we went shopping and it helped Hailey to reinforce her reading.  Later we worked on sentences and how at the beginnning we start with a capital letter (uppercase) and then at the end we need to put a period (a dot).  We also did some reading from the series mentioned in an early entry and worked on our sight words.  Busy day, but good day!
