Tuesday 9/16/08

This morning we started off with math.  We usually start with math because I feel like they are more attentive starting off and then I save the more fun and interactive things for them in the afternoon.  Today we learned how to write and spell 10, 11, and 12.  We used what's called a ten frame and the girls cut out ten grasshoppers to fill the ten frame.  Emma really got into cutting and didn't want to stop.  I was also amazed when she started copying her older sister who was practicing writing the number ten.  I looked at Emma's paper to find she was writing tens also!  Amazing!  Another reason why I love homeschool.  She is like a sponge!  I wish I had picture to prove it, but she cut it up with her new found love of scissors.  And yes, I have put them in a hidden place since the activity.  Later in the afternoon we read a poem called The Caterpillar by Christina Rossetti.  We then made butterflies out of used dryer sheets and clothes pins.  The girls really loved painting the wings with watercolors.  We then hung them up in our classroom a.k.a the dining room.  We also read Sylvester and the Magic Pebble and discussed what happened in the story.   All and all a good day!
